Cody and I had really been wanting to go and see all the lights at Temple square for awhile. We talked about going last year but I was too sick being just pregnant I wasn't really feeling up to it. But this year, since we live pretty close and all, we thought we would go enjoy the lights.
We decided to go on the 16th since Emma had an appointment 20 minutes Salt lake direction anyways and thought it would be perfect to just leave from the doctors office.
The day started out perfectly normal, Cody went to work I took care of baby, cleaned the house and packed everything I could think of that we might need while in Salt Lake (or so I thought).
Cody and I were excited all day about our little trip and about Emma's doc appointment , we really wanted to know ho much she had grown.
After the appointment we hit the road totally jazzed about finally getting to go but the excitement wore off around the end of the first hour of being STUCK ON THE FREEWAY!!! It was awful! We didn't start moving for almost TWO HOURS and for a good chunk of that Emma let us know how truly annoyed she was with the situation. Needless to say I was on edge When we finally got to Salt Lake.
We parked a few blocks away which was fine with us. We loved the walk there it reminded us of our honeymoon.( We went to General Conference ) We thought it would be nice to go to some of the other church buildings and tour them so we decided that we would go to the Joseph Smith Family History Library and have a look around.
I was feeling much more happy and at ease by the time we got there and really enjoyed the tour. They have SOOOOO many bibles all sorts of different versions and TONS AND TONS of literature on other faiths. It was really neat. All was well until they showed us the movie.
As we sat there and watched I kept getting a wiff of something that DID NOT smell very nice. I couldn't figure out where it was coming from and thought it must be the room because it was such a strange smell. After 10 or so minutes of this it occurred to me that I should probably check Emma since she was after all sitting right next to me. YEP! it was her and WOW was she smelling bad!
WORST BLOW OUT EVER!!!!!! It was disgusting! The poop was EVERYWHERE! In the car-seat all over her and her clothes. And of course I had dressed her warm so she was wearing a sweater, a long sleeve onesie , a corduroy dress, pink tights and boots and to make matters worse.... I'm an absolute idiot! I ALWAYS have extra things for Emma in the diaper bag just in case something like this were to happen. Well not this time. I didn't even have to essentials. No wipes, no butt cream, no extra clothes. I ended up wiping her down with mostly plastic disposable changing pads that i found in the fold down changing table and water from my water bottle. To keep her warm I put my arm length gloves on her legs and put her dress and her boots back on .( All this and she was still content and happy as could be. I love that she is like that. It could have been so much worse if she would have been screaming.)
After that whole disaster we decided that we would have to do a quick run through of the lights and then head home so the baby wouldn't freeze and even though we found ourselves in some less than ideal situations that day we still thought that it was really fun and decided to make it a tradition.... going to Temple square that it is : )
Baby all bundled up
This was my favorite tree |
The picture on the left we took first but there were too many people so I wanted to take it again and in the second picture you can see our breath. I didn't mean for it to happen but We think it looks really cool!
what a fun adventure. I can totally relate to not having anything you need when the baby decides to have an issue. I'm so happy that stage of my children is over. Truth be told I do miss the sweet baby sounds and the way they snuggle in for comfort. But I don't miss the blowouts. What a fun tradition to start. That would be fun.
ReplyDeleteSo nasty and funny. Anyone with kids can relate to that. When we are in Utah and that area, we like to park in Sandy at the tram station and ride it in. One of the stops is right in front of Temple Square and you don't have to worry about the parking or freeway traffic. Fun experience too.
ReplyDeleteI wish you would have taken a picture of her with your gloves on her legs. Too funny. I really liked the temple square pictures. I can't think of a better Christmas tradition than going to temple square, unless of course, it is going to Grandma's house. Love.
ReplyDeleteI realize, now, I never put you on my blog list!!! I haven't caught up on everything. But I'm putting you on, so I'll see when you post. Holy cow, did you know our babies look alike? They do!
